What is Amp?

AMPis an open source framework developed by Google in collaboration with Twitter. Accelerated Mobile Pages create good, fast experiences. Essentially the framework is designed by simplifying HTML and following regular CSS rules. It allows you to create lightweight experiences for mobile devices.

Accelerated Mobile Pages, initially Facebook'Fame Instant Articles Developed as an answer. Over the years, it has become a powerful platform to quickly publish content, directly from search results. Earlier this year, Google outlined its course by declaring that it would push to add the AMP technology framework to its web standards. How does AMP work?

In the infrastructure, there are 3 main sections within the AMP framework.

AMP HTML: Think of AMP HTML as a weaker version of regular HTML. The AMP framework has strict rules for the HTML tags you can use. Certain HTML elements are not allowed in AMP forms to ensure fast page loading. The AMP framework also requires you to use a regular version of CSS. If you're used to creating web content using modern HTML and CSS, these are things you know.

AMP JS: To ensure fast page loading on mobile platforms, AMP restricts the use of some Javascript code snippets. You can create animations using AMP components. You load your content dynamically and make changes to the layout. You can do more without any limits.

AMP CDN: A critical component of the AMP platform, commonly known as AMP Cache, is the proxy-based content delivery network (CDN). CDN caches AMP content for fast delivery.

Advantages of Using AMP

In the few years since AMP's launch, it has become generally accepted that social media sites in particular have thrived on AMP. Since the majority of content on media sites is static, this websites has seen significant increases in organic search traffic. E-commerce websites with a lot of dynamic content (such as filtering, sorting, adding a shopping cart and more dynamic user actions) that change according to user choices (such as filtering, sorting, adding shopping carts and more dynamic user actions) were investigated to what extent AMP could increase performance on mobile devices. All SEO and mobile performance followers know about AMP effects. The effects of a well-implemented AMP on websites are:

  • It significantly increases the volume of organic search traffic.
  • It increases engagement and conversion resulting from faster and better mobile experiences.
  • Since AMP CDN caches and responds to most search results, it reduces the load on your servers.

Disadvantages of Using AMP

There is a reason why some digital web brands decide not to implement AMP. These are actually the efforts required for AMP, spent during integration into websites. There is no denying that mobile presents an opportunity, but it also requires a cautious approach to it. For your team to take advantage of and enhance the AMP experience, it is necessary to create and maintain separate assets to AMP.

AMP is plain HTML. This means you can't deliver rich user experiences like animated maps, rotating images, etc. in AMP. If parts of your website rely heavily on rich UX, you may want to reconsider AMP versions of those web parts.

Finally, AMP experiences are walled and restrictive in design. These impact mobile user engagement.
